Claim: Leni Robredo lied about being a Professor in Economics, according to an International Relations expert
Rating: FALSE
In a post by For the Motherland, Sass Rogando Sasot claims that VP Leni Robredo’s stated in her biography that she was an Economics professor at the University de Sta. Isabel from 1987 to 1997.
The post points out that there is no way that this is possible as she would need a Master’s Degree in Economics in order to rank as a professor in the academe. The post has since garnered a thousand shares as of writing. (https://www.facebook.com/forthemotherlandph/posts/1772645109767794)

The actual link to Robredo’s biography, however, does clearly state that she worked as a professor while earning her degree in law. (https://ovp.gov.ph/)
In her speech to the UP School of Economics in 2014, she said, “Less than a year after I started working for the government, I got engaged to the boss and had to resign from work. I taught economics during the day in a local university and went to law school during the evenings. Jesse also eventually resigned and ran for Mayor of Naga City at the age of 29.” (https://econ.upd.edu.ph/rep-leni-robredo-guest-of-honor…/)
CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 40, s. 2008 which requires all higher education institutions (HEIs) faculty to have at least a master’s degree shall be fully implemented by AY 2011-2012. But when Robredo was still teaching, it was still not implemented.
Why we fact-checked this: The post has since become a basis for unofficial news sites such as Pinoy trending news to spread disinformation against the presidential candidate by questioning her credibility as well as that of the University de Sta. Isabel that has openly shown their support for the candidate. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDtADyeR7jg, https://pinoytrendingnews.net/international-relations…/…)
