Claim: Imee Marcos is the author of RA 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.
Rating: MISSING CONTEXT
The Facts: Imee Marcos or her team posted an art-card of her in her FB page crediting herself as author of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act and stated in the caption that she had fought for it to be passed in Congress.
The principal author of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act is Senator Risa Hontiveros. But there are six other co-authors and they are Sens. Richard Gordon, Imee Marcos, Bong Go, Tito Sotto, Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Bong Revilla Jr. The bill was unanimously approved 22-0 in the Senate. This information can be seen on official Senate documents and websites, and in media reports.
In the House, their version also was approved unanimously, and there are at least 14 principal authors.
Senator Risa Hontiveros filed the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act on August 15, 2018. The other senators requested to be co-authors
Netizens themselves have called out how Senator Marcos’ post is misleading as it makes people believe that she is the only author of the act.
Why we fact-checked this: Sen. Hontiveros was the one mostly quoted by the legacy media when the said bill lapsed into law last week. Senators Revilla and Gordon also made their own press releases on the law but it was Marcos’s post that truly went viral, getting 121,000 reactions, 20,900 comments and 36,500 shares on Facebook as of posting.
