Claim: The Huling El Bimbo concert was watched by 75,000 people
Rating: TRUE
A YouTuber cast doubt on the concert organizers’ claim that at least 75,000 watched the Eraserheads reunion concert last December 22 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Paranaque.
The Youtuber quoted Duterte blogger Mark Lopez (whom he described repeatedly as a known DDS) who said that the “Pinklawans” (supporters of Leni Robredo) tend to bloat their attendance figures. The video also showed mostly drone video of the concert.
Facts: The concert figures had to rely on the organizers because the police did not make an estimate as this is not a public gathering.
It was not just a concert but probably the last reunion concert of one of the most popular and iconic Filipino bands.
The tickets cost P17,260 for the moshpit and P14,160 for the VIP. The cheapest was still costly at P3,050.
The tickets were sold out moments after the sale was announced on October 5.
However, it was eventually announced that more sections at the venue would be opened with cheaper tickets: The bronze section where tickets cost P3,050 and an Angkas section where tickets were priced at P1,222.
Most of of the news reports went by the 75,000 figure while some even exceeded the number given by the organizers.
Some lowered it to 60,000.
But even if the conservative figure is true, the YouTube forgot to include Team Bahay.
Smart Communications also offered live pay-per-view access of the concert for P650. This was opened to international watchers with the price set at US$29.99 each.
So even with the very low 60,000 watching it live, it is safe to assume that more than 15,000 watched it on PPV.
Why we fact-checked this: There will always be party-poopers and other bloated people who will include politics in every issue. Especially when they were not accorded complementary tickets.
