Claim: Leni Robredo mourned CPP-NPA’s Joma Sison
Rating: FALSE
Rumors circulating online claim that former Vice President Leni Robredo is mourning the death of CPP-NPA founder Joma Sison.
This is false.
Facts: Nowhere on any of Robredo’s official channels, whether in social media, official public appearances, interviews in the media, or statements in the media indicate any sort of mourning for Sison.
Robredo has faced multiple red-tagging attempts linking her to the CPP-NPA-NDF in the past, but there is no evidence or proof of such a connection.
Rumormongers have been linking Robredo with Sison even during the election campaign in a blatant attempt of red-tagging. Both camps denied the allegations.
Why we fact-checked this: It was former President Duterte who had kind words for Sison but no one red-tagged him during his term. Ironically, it was during Duterte’s term that the CPP-NPA became a bogeyman to instill fear among the Filipinos and the scapegoat for the country’s woes.
