The Claim: Former Chief Justice Marie Lourdes Sereno wore a necklace stolen from Imelda’s personal jewelry collection.
Rating: FALSE
Several troll accounts have claimed that Former Chief Justice Sereno donned a gold necklace that was stolen from Imelda Marcos’s personal collection currently held by the PCGG. The original poster of the claim has since deactivated her account.
This is FALSE.
The Facts: The necklace Sereno wore was a gift from her mother which was bought from a department store in Daly City in California in the early 2000’s. She said that it was even a costume jewelry. (https://www.facebook.com/meiloupasereno/posts/403416438262410)
Imelda’s personal collection worth 704.8 Million pesos is currently being held by the PCGG after it was seized by the government after the Marcos family fled to Hawaii.
The gems are available for public viewing as a means to raise awareness of the Marcos Family’s corrupt practices. (https://pcgg.gov.ph/pcgg-launches-virtual-jewelry…/…)
However, in 2019, President Duterte issued a formal order to auction Imelda Marcos’s ill-gotten jewelry, emphasizing that the proceeds will go to those who are in need of government aid. (https://pcgg.gov.ph/pcgg-launches-virtual-jewelry…/…)
