Claim: It’s the Americans who ousted Marcos Sr., not the Edsa People Power
Rating: FALSE
The Facts: A “fact-checking” video posted by the ‘Bagong Lipunan’ channel on YouTube has been criticizing the speech of Nobel Prize holder, Maria Ressa for saying that the People Power revolt ousted the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
According to the speaker who named himself Kaloy Roy, it was the Americans who ousted Marcos. The US Air Force kidnapped the Marcos family and brought them to Hawaii while Cory Aquino declared a revolutionary government which solidified the removal of Marcos from power.

This is false.
According to The Official Gazette, one factor that led to the fall of Marcos’ dictatorship includes the growing opposition forces due to his dictatorship. “Rocked by key military and political defections and the overwhelming popular support for Aquino, Marcos was forced to depart with his family a few hours later for exile in Hawaii, effectively ending Marcos’ two-decade-long dictatorial rule.”

Kaloy’s claims on the kidnapping of the Marcos family have no weight and remain incredibly illogical.
Although the channel ‘Bagong Lipunan’ was created in 2010, it suspiciously only started posting videos on its channel a month ago. Most of its videos revolve around the Marcos family and the recently held 2022 election.

Why we fact-checked this: This is a clear example of historical distortion which is included in the growing disinformation network of our country. Legitimate historical narratives are backed up by evidence and data and should be protected.
