The Claim: Ninety percent (73 out of 81) of all the governors are backing BBM-Sara

Rating: FALSE

Why we fact-checked this: It is the banner story of a national newspaper.

The Facts: A national paper this Monday bannered the news that 90 percent of all governors in the country support the tandem of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. And Sara Duterte (https://www.manilatimes.net/…/90-of-governors…/1839768).

In the story, the source was one of the 16 governors who met with Marcos in his headquarters last Sunday.

But Quezon Gov. Danilo Suarez said that the information came from Ilocos Sur political kingpin Luis “Chavit” Singson.

There were no other reports quoting Chavit that 73 governors are backing the BBM-Sara tandem.

He, however, said that 80 percent of the 1,200 of the 1,480 municipal mayors are backing the tandem (https://manilastandard.net/…/chavit-80-of-mayors-league…).

Singson is the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines and even his statement of the 1,200 mayors supporting BBM-Sara had no backing except for what he said.
Also, Chavit is one of the main campaigners of Marcos Jr.

There has been no formal declaration that 80 governors indeed support Marcos and Duterte.
Other than the 16 governors who met with Bongbong last Monday, the newspaper report said that eight other governors are also supporting the duo.

Another Manila paper also said the same thing but this time quoted Marcos’s party, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, as the source of the 80 percent of governors backing BBM-Sara (https://manilastandard.net/…/pfp-73-governors-back…).
