A REPORT by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) headed by City Director PCol. Francisco Bulwayan Jr. says that Holy Week this year was more peaceful, with crime rates going down compared to the same period last year.

Bulwayan said that crimes in the Holy Week of 2023 were down 27 percent from the previous year’s, with only ten incidents in total being recorded.

Index and non-index crimes both went down.

The BCPO documented three index crimes this Holy Week, including incidents of robbery, physical injury, and murder.

The remaining seven were non-index crimes including alarm and scandal, arson of property for small value, discharge of firearm, grave coercion, malicious mischief and violations of anti-child abuse and anti-gambling laws.

Traffic violations were also down, with the city recording 12 incidents of reckless imprudence, four of which led to physical injuries and one leading to homicide.

Bulwayan cited the decrease in the crimes to the increased number of personnel and volunteer groups deployed, and the strict implementation of enhanced management of police operations like checkpoints, Oplan Bakal Sita, police presence, foot patrol and mobile patrol.
