The Baguio Fire Department is looking to transfer its main fire station into a permanent spot within a 1,200 square meter lot along Kisad Road in front of the Crown Legacy Hotel pending the acquisition of said lot.
Fire Superintendent Mirasol Odiver said that they are processing the transfer of the lot title to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and will immediately move to acquire funds from the BFP national office to construct a new fire station and a regional office for the BFP-CAR.
According to Odiver, the new facility will include a depot for the department’s various firefighting vehicles, as well as all the necessary infrastructure and equipment to facilitate timely response to fire straight from the heart of the city.
The city’s main fire station temporarily relocated to Barangay Irisan following the Baguio government’s decision to repurpose the Kayang Street fire station into a multi-level parking facility in a bid to decongest the central business district.
At present, the city fire station has three sub-stations located in barangays Irisan, Aurora Hill and Quirino Hill, with plans to establish more sub-stations in Gibraltar, Loakan and Marcos Highway which remain stalled due to a lack of funding.
