FOUR hundred sixty one cases of abuse against women were recorded in Baguio City in 2022, according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
CSWDO Gender and Development (GAD) focal person Myrna Valencerina said that of the 461, cases have only been filed for 82 of the recorded incidents while the other remain in various stages of counseling.
Majority of the reported incidents were cases of physical abuse and violence counting for 310 incidents, with the second largest portion being 68 incidents of sexual abuse and violence.
As for victim ages, the majority are in the age range of 21 to 30 years, making up 154 of the total cases recorded.
The CSWDO also noted 52 cases of women in difficult circumstances in 2023 to date.
Valencerina claimed that most of the victims of these abuses were provided with the necessary counseling, particularly the psychological and marital crisis counseling, as part of the interventions provided by the city government. Additionally, the city extends medical, financial, and educational assistance to victims.
