THE number of tourists in Baguio City has increased and is closing in on pre-pandemic numbers, according to City Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo.

According to Mapalo, Baguio Visitor Information and Tourist Assistance (VISITA) data shows that the city is now reaching weekly tourist counts of 50,000 to 60,000.

The numbers near the peaks of the year during Holy Week, where the city saw more than 80,000 tourists in a single week.

According to the VISITA data, the majority of the tourists are on weekends, accounting for some 40,000 of the weekly traffic on Fridays to Sundays.

“In just one day, we may have an accumulated 30,000 tourists in a day during peak season and this will really cause traffic all over the city, particularly along Botanical Garden and Mines View Park,” Mapalo said.

Mapalo added that the Botanical Garden along Leonard Wood Road is receiving an average of 2,000 visitors a day, increasing to as high as 5,000 during weekends or even 7,000 during peak season weekends.
