BAGUIO City’s government is taking a new approach to formulating its plans of action for the city’s development in the years to come by asking residents to directly choose between different options in an informal online poll.
The city government is currently in the middle of updating its Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) 2024-2032 which charts the city’s physical and economic development for the next eight years and the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2023-2028, which contains the city’s development programs in the next five years.
As part of the process of directing its development, the local government collaborated throughout the year with sectors of the populace and various stakeholders and agencies including city officials, punong barangays, and leaders and representatives of civil society organizations, people’s councils, private sector, regional line agencies and the academe.
In this process, the city also conducted consultations and workshops in June, August and October of this year which took input from the various participants to brainstorm “visions” for the city to follow and direct the city’s aspirations for its future identity and development for the next two decades, eventually narrowing it down to two options before the City Development Council (CDC).
The two options are: “Baguio 2043: Where creativity blooms, smart thrives and livability unites;” and “Baguio 2043 – A creative, inclusive and livable city.”
As the choice of vision is an ideological framework to inform the city’s development choices moving forward, the local government has decided to ensure that the general public has input on the final choice.
The Baguio government has announced that it will hold an online poll open to the public on its official public information page on Facebook starting on the weekend and closing on November 10 a week later, where the government will share their more in-depth justification and rationalizations for the two vision options and allow the public to choose a singular option for the city to pursue.
“We invite all Baguio City constituents to play a crucial role in shaping the future of our beloved City. Please take a moment to review these proposed City Vision statements and cast your votes to express your choice,” Mayor Benjamin Magalong said.
