The Commission on Elections (COMELEC)’s Baguio office is opening up voter registration efforts outside of its physical office compound in a bid to reach more citizens in the city ahead of the May 2025 midterm elections.
The COMELEC set up the Register Anywhere Program (RAP) on Friday of this week, setting up areas to register as voters moving forward in sites outside of the main office.
Areas included for the initiative include a one-day popup at the People’s Park on Friday, and the opening of satellite voter registration sites in various universities in the city.
Starting Friday, the COMELEC in Baguio will establish offsite registrations at the University of Baguio (UB), Saint Louis University (SLU) main campus, and Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on different months until September, and at Malcolm Square, according to City Election Officer lawyer John Paul Martin.
The registration sites will also cater to Benguet residents and workers from more remote areas of the province, allowing said individuals to register without having to return home.
Martin said that the offsite voter registration will offer transfer of registration, amendment of entries in the registration, correction of entries, and issuance of voter’s registration.
In addition to the RAP sites in the park and in the universities, Martin said that the commission will be running local registration efforts at the barangay level throughout the time leading up to May of next year.
