AS we bid goodbye to 2023, we look forward to 2024 and hope that the triumphs we achieved the past year will be replicated.
And as the new year unfolds, we aspire for the betterment of the sporting community not only in Baguio City and Benguet but the entire Cordillera region.
A wish list for the ushering of the new year includes the immediate turnover of the athletic oval at the Benguet Sports Complex.
Athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts of Benguet have been waiting patiently for the facility’s inauguration.
A top-notch tartan track promises to be a game-changer, not only for local athletes but also for potential competitions and events that could be hosted on this revamped ground. Let the dawn of this new year mark the commencement of a new era in Benguet’s sporting history.
The Benguet Sports Complex, a gem nestled amidst the scenic beauty of the region, underwent rehabilitation, with the promise of a state-of-the-art tartan track. However, despite the completion, the oval remains elusive, with neither the contractor nor the responsible government agency having turned over the facility.
The athletic oval stands as more than just a physical space; it symbolizes opportunity, a stage where dreams are nurtured and champions are forged.
It represents the heart of Benguet’s sporting prowess, a ground where world-class athletes from our province can refine their skills and showcase their talent on a global scale.
However, financial aid alone cannot unlock their full potential.
Benguet officials, take heed: it’s time to recognize that our athletes require not just monetary support, but also a comprehensive system of coaching, infrastructure, and opportunities for exposure and competition.
While funding is undoubtedly crucial, it is equally vital to provide comprehensive training programs, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and exposure to national and international competitions. Let’s invest not just in their present needs but also in their future potential.
Last on my wish list is for the completion of the Olympic – size swimming pool, also at the sports complex.
The ongoing first phase of an Olympic-sized swimming pool at the sports complex promises to be a game-changer.
Its completion this year could mark a pivotal moment for Benguet’s sporting destiny.
A fully operational swimming facility will not only enrich the talent pool within the province but also position Benguet as a potential host for regional and national sports competitions. It’s not just a pool; it’s a symbol of progress and a springboard toward greater athletic achievements.
Imagine the echoes of cheering crowds, the synchronized strokes in the pool, and the thunderous applause reverberating through the athletic oval.
These are the scenes we envision for Benguet—a province brimming with untapped athletic potential, waiting to be unleashed.
