BAGUIO Congressman Mark Go is pushing for the potential put-up of specialized high schools for arts and sports in the city of Baguio.
Via House Bills 9386 and 9387, Go is pushing for the setting up of said specialized schools in partnership with the appropriate commissions for each school.
HB 9386, which provides for the establishment of a sports-centric academic institution in Baguio, stipulates that the school in question will be put up and maintained by not only the Department of Education (DepEd) but also the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to ensure the quality of the education offered in the institution.
HB 9387 meanwhile, which provides for the establishment of an arts-focused academic institution in the city, would have the DepEd oversee the establishment and the operation of the new school in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
“The sports programs will be complemented with a relevant general academic curriculum and will pave the way for the sustainability of athletic careers. It will also contribute to producing generations of world-class athletes as it will raise sports awareness and interest among the Filipino youth,” Go said on his Facebook page.
“With HB 9387, young Filipinos will be encouraged to explore and cultivate their passion for the arts with their talents being properly honed with the right environment, facilities, and curriculum. This intervention will serve to make arts a viable option for career and livelihood. We can look forward to seeing how future graduates of the proposed high school will proudly showcase the Filipino culture and talent on the international stage,” he added.
