SEIPI held its 2nd Quarterly General Membership Meeting on June 6th at the CAP Camp John Hay, Baguio City with unwavering optimism.
Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc. (SEIPI) focuses on localized initiatives, education, and digitalization. President of SEIPI, Dr. Dan Lachica, addressed over 200 guests and gave substantial updates such as a five percent growth target on the GDP.
Lachica said that in 2022, the Philippine semiconductor and electronics industry accounted for US$50 million (actually $49.09 billion), which means a 6.88 percent annual growth from 2021. This represented two-thirds (62.27%) of the US$ 78.84 billion in total Philippine commodity exports.
Month-on-month electronics exports rose by 27.35 percent in March 2023 to US$ 3.83 billion, or 58.72 percent of the US$ 6.53 billion total Philippine exports, enabling the industry to retain its position as the country’s top commodity exporter and a significant contributor to the economic recovery, Lachica said.
Meanwhile, SEIPI Chairman Perry Ferrer is looking forward to the industry’s growing integration of Artificial Intelligence to replace menial tasks and further drive the electronics industry into a digital market. He said that we must not be afraid of the progression of AI as it does not aim to replace manpower. Rather it aims to supplement and guide the industry into the digital space.
