TWO soldiers were killed and one remains missing following an ambush by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Gacab, in Abra on Thursday morning.

The soldiers were ambushed on the way to Baay-Licuan in Abra. They were intended to augment the manpower for Disaster Response Operations (DRO) following the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake which hit the province on October 25.

Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Garcia III, Battalion Commander of the 24th Infantry Brigade, said that the identities of the victims are yet to be disclosed.

Garcia condemned the NPA attack and assured that justice will be had for the victims of the ambush.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible, the barbaric act of the CTG. We assure our people, particularly the families of our soldiers, that we will pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Lt. Col. Garcia expressed.

“This gruesome ambush against our soldiers in disaster response mode is another proof of their cruelty and inhumanity to our countrymen. Our countrymen are already suffering from tragedy, and these soldiers that wanted to help and respond have been slain without mercy,,” added Brigadier General Audrey Pasia, Commander of the 5th Infantry Division.

However, the military assured that even with the threat of ambush, soldiers will continue to augment disaster response in the province.
