CITY Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña has revealed the city’s plans for a P391 million sports complex, planned to rise in the city’s Athletic Bowl.
The plans for the complex provide for the putting up of a five-story building and was designed with the assistance of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) members to ensure that it would be appropriate for use as a sports complex.
According to Dela Peña, the facility is all ready to be bidded out, with a major requirement for contractors to have had prior experience in building sports facilities.
The ground floor is expected to be a parking facility that can accommodate some 60 vehicles, while the floor immediately above is slated to be an area for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), inclusive of rooms, a multi-purpose hall, an auditorium, as well as other facilities for use.
The third floor is planned for housing contact sports facilities for sports such as boxing, tae-kwon-do, and mixed martial arts (MMA), which Baguio and Cordillera athletes have excelled in.
The fourth floor is meanwhile planned to house six bowling lanes for bowlers, while the fifth floor is expected to have a basketball court.
Dela Peña said that the facility, once completed, will be free for use by the city’s athletes, but portions of the building are expected to be used as commercial space.
