The recently concluded second edition of the 100 Miles – Baguio to Sagada Ultramarathon showcased the incredible endurance, grit, and determination of its participants, with record-breaking performances across the board.
From Baguio City to the stunning highlands of Sagada, the ultramarathon challenged 14 runners through a grueling 160-kilometer course, winding through steep mountain roads and picturesque landscapes.
Baguio City’s own Alden Guadaña (Bib #02) emerged victorious in the male category, completing the race in a jaw-dropping 24 hours and 49 minutes, a significant improvement over last year’s record of 32 hours. Guadaña, the sole Baguio native in the competition, has not only cemented his status as a local hero but has also set a new benchmark for the event.
Following closely behind, Arnulfo Aquino (Bib #10) of Pasig clinched second place with a time of 29 hours and 47 minutes, breaking the previous second-place record. Iloilo’s Justin Estrologo (Bib #16) secured third place, crossing the finish line at 30 hours and 47 minutes, a remarkable feat compared to last year’s 37 hours and 5 minutes.
Representing Bauang, La Union, Ann Jillian Pulanco (Bib #11) proved that resilience knows no bounds.
As the only female competitor, she shattered last year’s record by completing the race in 29 hours and 47 minutes, making her one of the fastest overall finishers.
The ultramarathon concluded with Emman Manonsong of Rizal crossing the finish line in 41 hours and 44 minutes, just under the 42-hour cutoff. Each of the 14 participants successfully completed the race, proof of the growing competitiveness among ultra-distance runners.
In the 50-mile category, Errol Regaya from Cavite was the sole finisher. He started his run in Sinipsip, Bakun, Benguet (halfway checkpoint) and crossed the finish line in 16 hours and 28 minutes, beating last year’s record by over 30 minutes.
The course took runners from Baguio City through La Trinidad, along the demanding Halsema Highway through the municipalities of Atok, Bakun and Buguias in Benguet, to Sabangan, Bontoc and the finish line in Sagada near Sumaguing Restaurant.
