IT’S been a tough few weeks. Heck, it’s been a tough year.
It seems like every family I know has been touched by grief. A mother, a brother, a husband, a best friend. People in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 80s. On Facebook, every other comment I make is, “My sincere condolences for your loss.” The virus threatens to encroach on and penetrate our bubbles of safety, forcing us into smaller and smaller circles. In the past month, my family and I have stopped having Sunday lunch with my parents. We pretend we are on ECQ and limit our forays into town to essential errands, although my husband has to go out more often for his work commitments.
And we are both grateful to have work because we know that with the ongoing ECQ in NCR and other parts of the country, many cannot work, and therefore cannot earn.
This is truly a challenging time for our country.
Three weeks ago, my best friend Mari Brias and I were wondering what we could do to help in this situation, to send out a beacon of light in these dark times. We are both energy healers, and so we decided to share our insights on the coronavirus through a Facebook Live interview on my Soul Creates page on the eve of Easter Sunday. The date was deliberately chosen: Easter is reflective of the cycles we see in nature and in our very lives. We wanted to give out a message of renewal, of rebirth.
A few hours before the interview, I meditated and asked for divine insight on our topic, “Living with the Coronavirus: How to Shift Your Mindset.” In my mind’s eye, I saw our planet, and I felt compelled to send love to the entire Earth and all its creatures. I saw a beautiful glow cover the planet, and light seemed to be beaming from inside it as well. In my heart, I heard one word: Oneness. As I connected to the essence of the word, I felt filled with love for all of creation.
During the interview, I asked Mari to explain what it means to be energy, and what kind of impact this can have on how we are experiencing today’s crisis. Everything is energy, she replied. And everything is a divine spark from God. Not just us, but everything, including every atom in the Universe. Yes, viruses and bacteria included.
In energy healing, we believe that everything has a frequency, a consciousness. Based on our thoughts and beliefs, we send out a vibration to which the Universe responds. Have you ever heard of the saying, “Water seeks its own level?” Or, “What goes around comes around?” Well, the Universe is a bit like that, for what we send out comes back to us. We attract the experiences or people that are in the same vibration as our thoughts and beliefs.
It’s the same with viruses and bacteria. Viruses correspond to issues of worthiness or self-worth. Whenever I used to get a virus, I would ask myself, “In what way have I felt sad or diminished in the last two weeks?” There are viruses everywhere, but not everyone gets sick, and it all depends on whether we are a vibrational match with a virus or not.
Mari pushed the concept of viruses further, by saying that we humans actually have a symbiotic relationship with all of creation – including viruses. A higher consciousness way of looking at it would be to see that we have something to learn from the coronavirus. In a blog post in November 2020, she mentions that “corona” means crown, and in energy healing, the crown chakra is our connection with the divine. Could it be that we have to examine where we place our faith? Is what we believe in our heart of hearts the truth? In her blog, Mari says bluntly, “When death comes knocking at your door, what really matters?”
The pandemic came during a time when many were beginning to awaken to the realization that how we are living our lives is destroying the planet. We were living an unsustainable lifestyle, but we didn’t know how to stop. In fact, many of us still don’t know any other way to be, and we are still in free fall. What are the ways in which we are not honoring ourselves and Nature? Do we still consider ourselves separate from Nature? Will we only learn how intertwined our very being is with Nature when we struggle to survive on a dying planet?
How were our relationships before the pandemic? How were we treating ourselves and each other? There are many layers of truth that this pandemic has revealed.
The other higher consciousness question we can ask is: What is the coronavirus learning from us? Is it learning about love? Compassion? Resilience? Hope?
I mentioned to Mari my meditation on oneness, and she affirmed that this is one mindset shift that can be a healing one. The virus has proven that it doesn’t matter if you’re small or big, rich or poor. We are all one. And how we address the situation is calling us to rise up to that idea of oneness. The entire planet is affected, and we must act as one.
Another way to transform the anxiety and fear energy we may be generating is to practice gratitude. When we make gratitude a daily practice, we begin to fall in love with what we already have in our lives, and this vibration opens us up to receiving more blessings. It’s like telling the Universe, “Thank you! More, please.” It’s easy to begin: at the start of your day, simply list down ten things you’re grateful for right now. It can be any little thing: bird song, your morning coffee, the laughter of children, another day of enjoying one another’s company. Pretty soon, you’ll find that you need to list down more than ten. Do this practice long enough, and you will experience more serendipity, which is another way of saying that you are living in the flow of divine grace.
In one of my column entries in February 2020, when the coronavirus had just been declared a pandemic, I mentioned that viruses have been around for 1.5 billion years. They have been around a lot longer than we have. Imagine the wisdom they have to teach us from 1.5 billion years of evolution. Perhaps if we learn to tap into the energy of oneness with these different yet just as divine sparks from God, we can shift our mindset from fear to faith.
