THE Baguio Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has tagged the recent structural fire in the Pilando Building along Magsaysay Road as having been caused by electrical arcing.

This was according to Senior Fire Officer 3 Jose B. Dagson who said that they

saw an indication of an electrical surge which caused the ignition of fire.

Common electrical problems where arcing may occur include plugs that are loose in the outlet, outlets that do not work, lights that dim or flicker, tripping circuit breakers, hot or smoking outlets or switches and light bulbs that burn too often.

According to the BFP, the fire caused an estimated P5 million worth of damage to the Pilando Building, but there were no injuries or deaths due to the prompt discovery of the fire and subsequent evacuations.

Dagson said further investigation will be conducted with physical evidence such as electrical wirings, a terminal of the battery, and welded part of the steel shelf from the battery to be sent to the National Headquarters for the laboratory analysis process.
