THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently broke ground on a multipurpose building complex worth some P42 million in Barangay Irisan.

City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) head Johnny Degay said that the building is expected to be completed within the year.

Degay said that four other multi-million projects similar to the multipurpose complex in Irisan are ongoing in the city and expected to also be completed within the same timeframe.

Said other projects are located in Barangays Quirino Hill, Bayan Park, Engineer’s Hill, and Bakakeng Central.

According to Degay, the projects are nationally funded and as a consequence are designed primarily by the DPWH with inputs from the CBAO.

Meanwhile, Mayor Benjamin Magalong thanked several senators for facilitating the funding for the Quirino Hill, Bakakeng Central, and the Irisan projects, while citing Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for the Engineer’s Hill and Bayan Park projects.

However, Magalong assured that the funding is entirely from tax income, and also that all proper procedures were followed in the planning, funding and bidding processes for the projects.

These projects are expected to continue implementation even through the election process, and Baguio City is currently making a push to implement other big-ticket infrastructure projects that have been stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
