Five days after filing, MP mayoral candidate arrested for MJ trading

A MAYORAL candidate in a town in Mountain Province was arrested Wednesday morning at Sadanga town for transporting 19 marijuana bricks and cylinders worth more than P2 million.

Sonny Kidit Kalaw, a 36-year-old former police officer, was among five suspects arrested by the Philippine National Police while aboard a black Hi-Ace Grandia. His act happened five days after he had filed for candidacy.

Kalaw, who is running as an Independent, is one of five candidates for the position of mayor of Sabangan.

Other candidates also vying for the same mayoral position are a mayor; 37-year-old MayorJonathan Abella, who is a government employee of Barlig town; 30-year-old Jeric Sansano of Bontoc; and Samson Damaso, 28, also of Bontoc.

Also arrested Wednesday in Sadanga were three suspects from Tabuk City who were caught with 148 marijuana bricks and six cylinders of marijuana with a total value of P18,480,000.

Arrested inside the gray Nissan Almera were Jorge Eyawon, 34; Dario Diway, 30; and Jake Linchangan, 19.
