SOME yet unidentified residents of Barangay City Camp Central may face legal action from the city as “environmental saboteurs” for their dumping of sewage directly into city waterways.

The City Engineering Office (CEO) conducted an ocular inspection of the site after receiving photos from concerned citizens and found evidence of trash dumping into the local canal as well as sewer pipes directly discharging sewage from residences into the canals.

Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) to trace the origin of the waste and identify the households so that the city may prepare proper action.

The mayor also ordered the City Environment and Parks Management Office to initiate drastic actions against environment saboteurs such as the filing of legal cases for violation of the city’s Environment Code.

BCPO reports indicate that waste like plastic bottles and used face masks thrown into the said canal are coming from the nearby houses.

“It was also noticed that the foul odor emanating from the sewer lines connected to the nearby houses is believed to be from the sink and from the comfort rooms,” the report reads.
