BAGUIO City Congressman Mark Go has filed a bill in Congress that seeks to increase the monthly pension for Social Security System (SSS) pensioners.

Go has filed House Bill 3000, which would grant a P2,000 hike to monthly pensions across the board.

The increase will be implemented in four tranches over four years in order to ensure that the impact of such an increase does not jeopardize the SSS’s finances.

The four tranches, one per year after implementation, would increase the monthly pension by P500, totalling out to P2,000 after four years of implementation.

As of 2021, the SSS has 2.9 million pensioners registered. More than half are retirement pensioners.

Previously, the SSS implemented a P1,000 monthly pension, but inconsistent pronouncements of the implementation of a second tranche of increases caused confusion among pensioners.
