DA-CAR gives P106m in aid to Mt. Province rice farmers

AS part of the National Rice Awareness Month Information Caravan and Consultation held in Sinigpit, Mountain Province, the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR)  has provided some P105.6 million worth of aid to the province’s rice farmers.

P84.7 million from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Farmers Financial Assistance Program has been earmarked for distribution to 16,452 Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA)-registered rice farmers with two hectares or less of land.

P12.5 million of the fund has been used to provide seeds, fertilizer and soil ameliorant to individual qualified farmers.

At the same time, five irrigation systems and a warehouse worth P8.387 million were awarded to different farmers associations in the province: Lettok Farmers Association Banawel, Natonin; Chinakhop Farmers and Irrigators Association Tocucan, Bontoc; and BLGU-Poblacion, Sabangan were awarded the rehabilitation of irrigation canals. 

Meanwhile, the Torod Palitud Integrated Farmers Association of Palitod, Paracelis and Tongfu Farmers Association of Tonglayan, Natonin were awarded the construction and rehabilitation of diversion dams respectively. 

The Butigue Kapamilya Farmers Association Inc. of Butigue, Paracelis was awarded a warehouse under the fund as well.
