BAGUIO Mayor Benjamin Magalong and city officials broke ground on the construction of the athlete’s quarters at the Baguio Athletic Bowl this week.
City Buildings and Architecture (CBAO) Architect Cliff Ham said that the project will cost some P30 million and start construction this month, with an estimated one year of implementation time in total.
The CBAO-designed dormitory will have 30 rooms and 120 beds, an al fresco dining area, a lounge, and other amenities, according to Ham.
The facility is also expected to be usable as a COVID-19 isolation facility in case the need arises once more in the city.
The P30 million athlete’s quarters is part of a larger project to rehabilitate and renovate the Athletic Bowl, with other projects in the facility planned by the CBAO.
The renovation efforts include a P115 million renovation project for the Baguio tennis court and parking area at the Athletic Bowl.
Magalong meanwhile assured that the city observed proper protocol and that no under-the-table deals occurred with regards to the project.
“We will definitely eradicate corruption here in Baguio since this is the bane of any local government unit aspiring to become economically resilient and stable,” he said.
