THE city government of Baguio has earmarked some P131 million worth of funds for the improvement of the Baguio City tennis court, which is slated to include underground parking, as part of the move to improve portions of Burnham Park.

According to Baguio City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña, the funding is from the original P112 million allocated for the parking project, plus additional funding from projected savings from the city’s cancelled sports activities, the funding for which has been realigned.

The savings from cancelled sports activities in the city amount to P23 million, according to Dela Peña.

Based on the plan, which is part of the ambitious Burnham Park development project that the city is currently batting for, the tennis courts would be raised to make space for underground parking.

The entire rehabilitation of the tennis court and the inclusion of underground parking is expected to be a joint project between the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the city government.

However, detailed plans for the project will be made by the City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) based on initial plans by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO).

Parking spaces are also eyed at the planned youth convergence center, the old city auditorium, and near the city creative center.
