NO less than Guinness World Records has commented on a recent false claim made by Bongbong Marcos (BBM) supporters over social media.
A Facebook group named “BBM-Sara UniTeam Headquarters Northern Luzon, Crown Legacy Hotel Baguio” earlier this week claimed that the BBM caravan in Ilocos Norte holds the world record for the longest motorcade.
Additionally, the post was also edited to include a Guinness-certified logo.
However, Guinness World Records’ official account responded to the post, simply stating, “This information is incorrect.”
The records company followed up with a post on their official Twitter account replying to a screenshot of the initial response, saying that they were “not here to waste anyone’s time.”
Preliminary findings of Tsek.ph, an academe-based fact-checking initiative, showed that Marcos benefits from positive but misleading or false messaging and posts on social media ahead of the 2022 national elections.
The initiative also found that Vice President Leni Robredo, who is also seeking the presidential post and is Marcos’ closest rival, is the “biggest victim” of disinformation.
