PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar has created a special task force to look into the killing of Dr. Amor Trina Dait on Saturday night.

Dait, 52, was a resident doctor of La Paz District Hospital.

She was shot by unidentified suspects in her house in Barangay Poblacion in Pilar, Abra at about 7:30 P.M. last September 18.

“The local police are directed to immediately coordinate with the victim’s family to check if Dait received life threats prior to the crime,” Eleazar said.

“It must also be determined if there are individuals who could possibly have a personal grudge against her,” he added.

Pilar police found five slugs from an M-16 rifle from the site.

Eleazar said that he wanted to know if Dait’s running for a seat as Pilar mayor in 2019 may have something to do with her killing. During that campaign period, Dait’s campaign manager was gunned down in Pilar in 2019.

Eleazar said that all angles should be looked into.

Abra Rep. Joseph Bernos said that Dr. Dait’s medical career will be more missed at this time in their province.

“She was a healthcare frontliner who gave selfless service to the people of Abra in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic as a resident doctor in La Paz District Hospital,” Bernos said.

“With the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers are of utmost importance to keep our communities safe from the threats of the dreaded disease. It is for this reason that I strongly condemn the heartless killing of Dr. Dait,” Bernos said.

“Her dedication to her profession showed her genuine care for the well-being of Abreños, and it was this sincere outlook that drove her to launch her candidacy for mayor of the Municipality of Pilar, Abra in 2019,” he added.

According to Dait’s family, the police are looking for clues to the doctor’s killing.

They cited the statement of PCapt. Edwin Sergio, provincial police spokesperson, that one of the assailants was a male wearing a light-colored T-shirt and cap aboard a motorcycle.

Sergio said that the man went in front of Dait’s house and shot her while she was preparing a medical receipt for one of her patients.
