BONTOC, Mountain Province – 600 tricycle drivers and operators in Bontoc received one face shield each from the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) on October 14, 2020, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol.

Speaking before the drivers and operators, Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey mentioned that the provision of face shields is part of the Bontoc LGU’s initiative to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

“Our contribution aims to help those in the transport sector to cope with the pandemic, as well as to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This may be a little help, but the face shield will be additional protection from possible transmission of the virus especially in your line of work,” the mayor remarked.

He reminded the tricycle drivers to comply with the minimum health standards such as the proper wearing of face mask and face shield, washing and sanitizing of hands regularly, observance of the maximum number of passengers, placement of a barrier between the motorcycle and the sidecar, and disinfection inside the tricycle.

Further, Odsey encouraged the recipients to be united and make their organization, the Bontoc Federated Association of Tricycle Operators and Drivers (BOFATOD), active and functional so that it would be easier for them to lobby with the municipal government for their requests.

The distribution of the face shields was facilitated by MTFRB Secretariat Marilyn B. Aquino and MTFRB member Aaron Aniwasal.
