The repair and rehabilitation of the official presidential residence in Baguio, The Mansion, will be completed sometime near the middle of 2025, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH – Cordillera Director Khadaffy Tanggol said that the repair and rehab work, which includes the planned new Baguio presidential museum, is halfway complete and should be done by May of next year.
Currently ongoing, in addition to the establishment of the Malacañang Heritage Museum, are repairs of the conference hall and the putting up of an inspection center within the complex.
In total, the repair and improvement costs are budgeted at P99.4 million.
Aside from the seven galleries that will showcase presidential artifacts and historical timelines, the Malacañang Heritage Museum will also have a souvenir shop for local and foreign tourists.
The plan for the museum is to put up mementos from former presidents and their families, such as their barong or other memorable artifacts, with the Teus Mansion that currently houses the existing Presidential Museum showcasing pieces of clothing, campaign paraphernalia, news clippings, and other such memorabilia.
The Teus Mansion is one of three heritage structures in the Malacañang compound, which also include the Bahay Ugnayan, which now features a timeline of key events in the life of the incumbent president; and the Goldenberg Mansion, built in the 1870s by a Spanish merchant family and later repurposed as an arts and culture venue.
The Mansion House was built in 1908 to function as the summer home of American governors-general, and has since been the official summer residence of the incumbent Philippine president.
