FORMER Vice President Leni Robredo will be the principal sponsor of the wedding of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and her coach – trainer Julius Naranjo in Baguio City. Diaz and Naranjo will tie the knot on July 26, one year after Diaz won the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal for weightlifting.

Diaz revealed the plans in a Facebook post, showing her and Naranjo’s pre-nuptial portraits taken at three locations – Northern Blossom Flower Farm, Baguio Country Club and the Stronghold Athletics gym.

Other noted ninongs are Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Manny Pangilinan, Ramon Ang, Cong. Bambol Tolentino, Dr. Vicky Belo, Judy Ann Santos and Gang Badoy, among others.

The couple visited Robredo in her headquarters to ask her to be their Ninang.

This was Diaz’s manager Noel Ferrer’s text: “PINAGHIRAPANG TAGUMPAY: Sakripisyo, Tiwala at Pagmamahal. Para sa Diyos at Bayan. At Para Sa Isa’t Isa. Hidilyn Diaz Oly at Julius Irvin Hikaru T. Naranjo, nakasuporta lang kami ni Ninang Leni Gerona Robredo lagi!!!”

“It has been almost a year since we won the gold medal at the Olympics, and this July 26, 2022, [Julius] and I will get married,” Diaz said in Filipino in her post.

The couple will be wed at St. Ignatius Church in Baguio City.

Diaz made history in July last year, after winning the Philippines’ first Olympic gold in Tokyo. She and Naranjo then announced their engagement a few months later in October 2021.

Their wedding hashtags are: “#TheWeightIsOver #FromGoldToForever #NaranjoDiazAhead”
