The recently closed Baguio Midland Courier is closing down its Facebook page permanently at the end of this month of October, marking its full closure ever since it ceased operations last July 22.
However, the venerable publication is preserving its history of coverage by having its archives turned over to the Baguio City Public Library and the Benguet Provincial Library.
In its advisory on Thursday, the publication announced that its issues from as early as 1959 up until its closure in July this year have been archived for public access in the two libraries.
The years covered include: 1959-1969; 1971; 1973-1975; 1977; 1983-1987; and 1989-2024 at the Baguio City Public Library, and 1963-1968; 1973-1975; 1983; 1989-1994; 2006-2007; and 2010-2024 at the Benguet Provincial Library.
“We have also turned over the microfilm viewer, including the reels of previous issues (1947-2003), to the Baguio City Public Library,” said the publication’s administration.
The Baguio Midland Courier has also announced that it is working on efforts to digitize its entire archive and print run for public access once the efforts are completed.
