Baguio City has seen a significant decrease in active dengue fever cases this month of September, coming down from its earlier historic record-breaking case highs.
According to the Baguio City Health Services Office (CHSO),dengue cases in the city have decreased by 75 percent as of the third week of September 2024.
Currently, the city has recorded some 200-plus cases of dengue in the month of September, with final figures still up for review. However, a drastic drop from the peak of 872 active cases in a single month has been observed.
CHSO Head Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes said dengue cases have been on the downtrend for a while, but the death toll and year-round case count have both broken the city’s records, with 15 deaths to date and at least 6,718 recorded cases as of the start of September.
The top ten barangays with the highest number of cases are Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Asin Road, Pacdal, Sto. Tomas Proper, Camp 7, Gibraltar, Loakan Proper, Bakakeng Norte and Pinget.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that even if cases are tapering off, public vigilance must continue, especially in search-and-destroy operations to continually weed out mosquito breeding places, and in seeking early consultations to prevent deaths.
