BENGUET General Hospital (BeGH), the province-run medical facility, has opened its new dialysis facility on Wednesday, May 12.

The facility is the first province-run facility of its kind in Benguet, which currently has two other dialysis facilities that are privately run while renting out space in the hospital.

According to Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) acting chief, the dialysis center can serve at least 27 patients a day.

While the facility is already operational, the BeGH is currently still working on acquiring the appropriate requirements and paperwork to receive a license to operate from the Department of Health (DOH) before the facility can officially accept patients.

The center is one part of the ongoing efforts to improve the BeGH and healthcare options in the province, outside of Baguio City.

DOH Undersecretary Roger Tong-an said the agency will provide another 10 sets of hemodialysis machines as part of the move to enable the hospital to cater to more patients.

Previously, in the first week of May, BeGH also saw an expansion of its molecular lab facilities to more than double its COVID-19 testing capabilities per day.
