BAGUIO City has opened up vaccination for minors aged 12 to 17 in the city.
Over the course of the first week of vaccination being opened for minors, 3,180 Baguio residents aged 12 to 17 have received their first dose of the various available COVID-19 vaccines.
The city is targeting some 50,000 minors for vaccination in total, though the City Health Services Office (CHSO) has yet to provide an expected timeframe for the target to be hit.
The rollout of the minors’ vaccination has been approved by Presidential Adviser and Testing Czar Secretary Vince Dizon, while online registration for minors in the city has been open since October 14.
The National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) previously opened the vaccination sites for immunocompromised minors as early as October 15, but vaccination of the general underaged populace of Baguio only opened on October 29.
Parents and guardians of the eligible minor population must first register with the city’s online portal accessible at bakuna.baguio.gov.ph for their inclusion in the list and wait for the rollout in the city.
According to Dr. Rowena Galpo, head of the CHSO, Baguio has fully immunized 62 percent or 162,384 of the eligible populace, only eight percent short of the 70 percent or 262,185 threshold for herd immunity.
The 70 percent target is expected to be reached by the end of November, with Galpo stating that Baguio has near 90 percent one-dose coverage of the eligible population, meaning that some 90 percent of Baguio’s residents have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
