CLAIM: VP Robredo cannot remember pieces of legislation she filed as Camarines Sur Representative
Rating: FALSE
In a 39-second TikTok video posted by user “ghlyn_c”, outgoing VP Leni Robredo was shown not being able to answer questions regarding the bills that she herself authored. This made her look “lutang” or not in a proper state of mind, a popular disparaging for her by her opponents.
In the video, Robredo says “Dalawa sa mga fi-nile kong batas ay ‘yung…‘Yung pinaka-una kong finile ay, uhm, nakalimutan ko ‘yung title”.
This was later on followed by a clip of senator-elect Raffy Tulfo laughing and spitting out water. The part where she says she forgot the title was then repeated for comedic effect.
The Press conference being referred to in the TikTok video was one that VP Leni attended on October 29, 2021, at the Sorsogon Provincial Gym. She was answering a question regarding her advantage against other presidential candidates and she stated her accomplishments in the OVP as well as proposals in Congress to curb corruption in the Government.
The full statement reads:
This shows that VP Leni Robredo was aware and knowledgeable of the Legislations she authored, she simply forgot the full title of the bill.
But to splice a video to show that she is scatterbrained is a form of dishonesty and a form of disinformation because it is intentional and malicious.
Why we fact-checked this: Since it was released on the video-sharing platform, the deceptive TikTok video has been shared 908 times, with 3,291 likes and 676 comments. On April 17, it was reuploaded on Facebook by user “Eillor Nogara.” It’s been shared over 79,000 times, liked over 7,100 times, and gotten over 2,800 comments. Neither post has been deleted and is still available for public viewing and sharing.
VP Robredo has responded to the attacks on her character, which have primarily come from followers of the late dictator’s son as well as internet trolls. She said that her government experience speaks for itself.
