The Claim: VP Leni Robredo eats at a restaurant affiliated with Joma Sison
Rating: FALSE
The Facts: In a recent Facebook post, Nathan Aniñon Viloria, a netizen with 4,995 friends, red-tagged Presidential aspirant and incumbent Vice President Leni Robredo, editing Aika Robredo’s recent Twitter post.
In Aika’s tweet, Robredo is shown eating bangus and corned beef, with the caption: “Lunch break at home in between house-to-house so I can join @lenirobredo for lunch. First time to see her in around a week. Sana na-miss mo din kami, Ma.” (https://twitter.com/…/status/1510123787076861955/photo/1).
Nathan Aniñon Viloria reposted a screenshot of this tweet, altering Aika’s original caption to: “Lunch break with my mama at Joma Sison’s Catering and Burger Services, The Food is top notch, We ordered the ‘Chad Booc Corned Beef Meal’ and it was the best meal we had ever yet, I recommend ‘Joma Sison’s Catering and Burger Services 10/10 ang sarap.”
Viloria’s Facebook post went on to make disparaging remarks regarding Robredo’s person. The restaurant in question, “Joma Sison’s Catering and Burger Services,” is non-existent. Robredo did not eat at this supposed establishment.
This Facebook post has since been deleted or hidden from Viloria’s profile page, as of April 6, 8:00 P.M. According to his page, he works at BPI, but this has been debunked by one of the company’s personnel via direct messaging after a concerned netizen, Norman N. Tubera, reported Viloria on Twitter (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209399182251812&set=p.10209399182251812& type=3).
Why we fact checked this: Red-tagging is never right and can put the lives of others in danger.
As a result of Viloria’s malicious editing, somebody created Joma Sison’s Catering And Burger Services (https://www.facebook.com/jomasisoncornedbeef) last April 4 to continue the red-tagging of VP Robredo and the Makabayan bloc.
