CLAIM: The University of the Philippines will be closed down following a P2.5-billion budget cut
RATING: FALSE
A YouTube video was posted by the user “PINAS NEWS INSIDER” with the title “KAKAPASOK LANG GRABE to! PRES MARCOS at VPSARA NILUSOB ang UP DILIMAN IPAPASARA TINAPYASAN ng PUNDO”.
This was accompanied by a thumbnail showing President BBM and VP Sara Duterte superimposed in front of protesters from UP Diliman, accompanied by the words “Sawakas! Ipapasarado na! Ito ang matinding utos ni PBBM VPSARA. Goodbye UP Dilawan”.
The video reports that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr cut UP’s budget by 2.5 Billion pesos.

This is FALSE.
The UP System, which includes its branches and the Philippine General Hospital, is budgeted for P24.2-billion in 2023. It is impossible to simply close down the UP system as all of its constituent branches are accounted for.
