Claim: The Pantone color for 2023 is the color of the red onion
Rating: SATIRE
Facts: In early December, Pantone already announced the color for 2023 which is Viva Magenta.

“Pantone’s Color of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative,” announced Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.
In the Philippines, the price of onions continued to rise before and during the holidays. And because Viva Magenta is similar to the outermost skin of red onions, someone decided to satirize Pantone’s choice for 2023.
One of the first to do so is Shop Suki on December 8.

“Aanhin ko ang color of the year kung sibuyas ang nagbibigay ng kulay sa buhay ko? Suki, this is the color of the year sabi ng Pantone! Brave and fearless daw. Kaya pala naiiyak tayo kapag hinihiwa yung sibuyas,” it said.
And thus the meme was born.
Why we fact-checked this: Because some people have lost the ability to differentiate satire from fact, or lack critical thinking to begin with.
