FACT CHECK – Senatorial candidate Chiz Escudero formally endorsed VP Leni Robredo #FactsFirstPH

A photo is circulating that Chiz Escudero is now supporting VP Leni in her bid as presidential candidate, expecting that five million of his voters in the 2016 election will also do the same for Leni and Kiko on May 9.
Rating: FALSE
The facts:
At a campaign stop in Sorsogon, Vice President Leni Robredo shared the stage with Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero as he welcomed and introduced her to the pink-clad crowd. Governor Chiz Escudero made an unclear endorsement wearing a white shirt on the said event.
Despite the fact that VP Leni included Chiz Escudero from the Nationalist People’s Coalition as a guest candidate in her Senate slate, he refused to exclusively endorse the Bicolana presidential contender.
Why we fact-checked this:
A post by Twitter user (@lascano_alfredo) has gained 4,862 likes, 643 retweets and 127 comments on Twitter since it was published on February 14, 2022.
Complete details:
Even if he shared the stage with VP Robredo, one would imagine that Escudero’s endorsement would follow soon after, but it did not.
For a brief moment during his introduction of Robredo, it appeared that the governor of Sorsogon was about to give his kababayan some form of endorsement, but before Escudero could finish, Robredo’s campaign manager, former senator Bam Aquino, tapped him on the back to announce the arrival of Robredo’s running mate, Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
“I am deeply honored to be included in the Vice President’s senatorial lineup. Ako po ay nagpapasalamat kay VP Leni at Senator Kiko sa pag-eendorso sa aking kandidatura. Nakakataba ng puso na makuha ang kanilang suporta,” Escudero stated in a press statement.
Escudero’s refusal to exclusively back Robredo is unsurprising.
In pre-election polls, he has come out as one of the more popular senatorial picks. He is also a guest candidate on the slates of Robredo’s opponents, Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, a vice presidential contender paired with Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.,has also endorsed Escudero.
