Claim: Robredo only pretends to be a lawyer while Duterte is a great one
The Facts: A circulating comment that came from our tipline compares Robredo and Duterte’s experiences as lawyers. They claim that Robredo never won a case as a lawyer while Duterte is a great lawyer for serving as a prosecutor for many years.
Rating: MISLEADING and LACKS CONTEXT
The standards applied to both lawyers were unequal. They judged Robredo’s validity through her winning cases while Duterte’s validity was judged by his years of experience.
In terms of experience, Duterte did become a prosecutor for 9 years from 1977 to 1986. Robredo on the other hand joined the Public Attorney’s Office from 1997 to 1999. She then joined Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (SALIGAN) – Bicol Chapter, where she was branch coordinator and lawyer for 13 years.
Her biggest victory while with SALIGAN was the Sumilao farmer’s organization. She helped them reclaim their ancestral domain in 2007, even joining them in the march from Bukidnon to Manila.
