CLAIM: President Marcos has a huge amount of gold stashed away in Japan
RATING: FALSE
THE FACTS: A YouTube video channel ‘PweDelie TV’ posted a video with the title: “GRABE NAKAKALULANG MARCOS ACCOUNT SA JAPAN ISUSUNOD NA KAYA NI PANGULONG BONGBONG MARCOS?”.
The video shows an image of a receipt for fifty thousand metric tons of gold from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas that is going to be delivered somewhere else (but it was not stated where in the receipt).
The remainder of the video plays a briefing of Asst. Secretary of the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, Neil Imperial, as he announces the visit of current president Bong Bong Marcos to Japan.

This is false since there is no evidence to the claim. An image of a receipt is not enough evidence to prove this allegation. Furthermore, the briefing of Asec. Imperial, doesn’t even form any connection with the assertions being made.
Aside from this, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was involved in cases of corruption and embezzlement regarding yen loans with Japanese companies during his regime. This means that the Japanese government wouldn’t actually be that trusting of having a transaction with the Marcoses, unlike what YouTube claims are stating.

WHY WE FACT-CHECKED THIS: Almost all the so-called Marcos wealth abroad including the Philippines was frozen as they were stolen from the country’s coffers. That the riches of the Marcoses will save the country is an age-old lie.
