CLAIM: Philippines bought a Swedish-made Helicopter
RATING: FALSE
THE FACTS: A Youtube video shows a Swedish helicopter supposedly delivered to the Philippines by the Swedish government. The video has since garnered nearly 50,000 views.
According to reports, the Philippine government purchased the helicopter from Sweden and paid for it in full, which is why it was delivered free of charge.
This is FALSE.
There has been no news of a helicopter arrangement between the Philippine and Swedish governments. According to the July 6, 2022 Filipino News Agency report, the sole Swedish-made aircraft the Philippines intends to purchase is the Saab JAS-39 jet fighter for its multi-role fighter (MRF) programme, but no agreement has been reached between the two countries.
The footage displayed in the false video containing the claim was initially released on December 4, 2022, by YouTube user Prayoth Phongpharnich. The video shows the Royal Thai Army receiving a UH-60 helicopter at Laem Chabang Port.
