RATING: False
It is Joma Sison’s birthday today, February 8, but yesterday the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines was “killed off” by clickbait groups and the rumor was forwarded by some social media groups.
It came to the point that Sison’s niece had to ask for confirmation on public. It turned out that the rumor started with Sleek Gist which came out with incomprehensible article about 5 NPA supposedly killed and ended up with Joma being killed. Although it did say that the “passing can’t be affirmed at this point.” The title, however, is a clickbait: What Was Joma Sison Death Cause? Filipino Communist Party Founder Died Age 86.”
The article was followed by wiki.ng, en.memesrandom, uptobrain and other clickbait groups.
One of those which followed the rumor is potitics.tv, which describes itself as a political group with more than 13,000 followers and has the pictures of Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. as profile pic.
“There has been rumors circulating that said Joma Sison has apparently died. THIS IS STILL UNCONFIRMED, WE HAVE YET TO SEE ANY OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT,” it posted yesterday.
The “news” is false and a weird way to greet Joma on his birthday the next day.
