CLAIM: A government destabilization plot was hatched last January 7 a few days after police generals were asked to hand in their courtesy resignations.
RATING: FALSE
FACTS: Social media groups were alerted with reports of alleged destabilization plots from both the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
Part of the “news” included photos of armed personnel carriers in Manila and a memorandum dated January 7, 2023, supposedly from Police Lt. Col. Dexter Ominga of the PNP Regional Office in Cordillera asking its PNP personnel to be on full alert following the resignation of all personnel of the Defense Department.
AFP public information office chief Colonel Jorry Baclor and PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo denied the said memo.
The PNP said that the APCs were part of their security preparations for the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene this Monday, January 9.
Top PNP generals including the top senior officials of the PNP Cordillera Regional Office tendered their courtesy resignation last January 6.
WHY WE FACT-CHECKED THIS: This is a rumor that cannot be ignored and has to be verified in the bud.
