Roads across the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have been closed down as heavy rains from Typhoon Julian caused flooding and soil collapses throughout the region.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Apayao-Ilocos Norte road was closed as floodwaters engulfed major inter-provincial road systems, while waters flowed along the detour road in the ongoing Annaran Bridge Construction Project in Madalagudug River, K0661+950 in Butao, Calanasan, Apayao.
Another portion of the road was also closed because of the high water level along the detour at the ongoing Tanglagan Bridge Construction Project in the Apayao/Tanglagan River in Tanglagan, Calanasan, Apayao.
Aside from these, the Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road was shut down due to a soil collapse in Barangay Ferdinand, Calanasan, Apayao.
Meanwhile, the Abra-Kalinga Road in Poblacion, Malibcong, Abra and the Abra-Ilocos Norte Road in Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra were also closed due to a landslide.
In Mountain Province, landslides were reported along the Baguio-Bontoc Road and Alab Section.
The Mountain Province-Ilocos Sur Road in Barangay Poblacion, Bauko, also closed to all vehicles due to soil erosion.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Philippine Red Cross, two houses were destroyed along with several vehicles buried under debris; however, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have issued warnings to motorists to exercise caution when passing through the roads affected.
