BAGUIO Representative Mark Go’s push for the creation of a specialized arts high school has progressed at the House of Representatives.
House Bill 9387, which provides for the establishment of an arts-focused academic institution in the city, has been unanimously approved by the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture.
HB 9387 would have the DepEd oversee the establishment and the operation of the new school in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
“By creating the Baguio City High School for the Arts, the youth of Baguio and neighboring towns will have a place where their aptitude and skills in culture and the arts can be properly honed with the right environment, facilities, and curriculum,” Go said.
The bill is one of two bills authored by Go which would create specialized schools in the city of Baguio.
The other bill, HB 9386, provides for the establishment of a sports-centric academic institution in Baguio, and stipulates that the school in question will be put up and maintained by not only the Department of Education (DepEd) but also the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to ensure the quality of the education offered in the institution.
HB 9836 is still being worked out at the House of Representatives, and has yet to be approved by the appropriate committees.
