BENGUET’S representative Eric Yap has officially declared support for Senator Robin Padilla’s push to legalize medical marijuana in the country.
According to Yap, the regulation of the cultivation and distribution of marijuana, especially for medical purposes, will help in containing the illegal cultivation of the prohibited hemp in the highlands, not only in Benguet, but also in other nearby provinces in the Ilocos and Cordillera regions.
Yap also said that Benguet will certainly be one of the identified and tagged marijuana producers should Senate Bill 230 be passed, subsequently providing jobs and livelihoods among the Benguet people.
He also said that the taxes on medical marijuana would provide a source of income for the province if the bill is passed.
He emphasized that Benguet and some parts of the Cordillera had always been placed in a bad light because of the presence of marijuana plantations in some remote villages that result in marijuana eradication operations conducted by law enforcers.
